Dora Kontha: Soulscapes - Untitled 35, 2021, archival pigment print, 60 × 60 cm

The Soulscapes series explores the perception of the individual’s environment, the alternative realities, and the constant change memories undergo over time. Fragile inner landscapes appear in the photographs, where remnants of memory and missing details complement each other, creating a new imaginary world. In this subjective reality, time and personal memory transform emotions so that human traits are slowly replaced by colours and shapes and the person seen in the picture gradually becomes more and more like an abstraction. The resulting experimental photographs push the boundaries of instant photography through various manual interventions. During the lengthy processes, different materials and fluids were injected between the layers of traditional polaroid photographs to create a peculiar universe, thus the images become the reflections of changing emotions and distant memories.
