The images in Possible Worlds were inspired by nature. Previously, I photographed only details of the built environment, while this series was shot on uninhabited islands of the Galápagos Archipelago. Despite their physical proximity, the islands are very different worlds, with unique natural features, vegetation and endemic fauna. The photographs on view at this exhibition show familiar details. They are similar to the shots you see in nature films, but they are removed from them. They present possible worlds, because they show only selected parts of reality and the viewer needs to draw on their knowledge and experience to interpret them. Each viewer creates their own possible world, and consequently every photo represents a fictional world. It may be similar to the real world, its rules may be familiar, but its properties are different from what we have come to know. Instead of colourful travel shots, these are on offer to show the viewer an exceptional place. An archipelago where animals are not afraid of humans, and where humans do not damage the flora and fauna (so much). This too is a possible world.
